American Reformation Church Prayer Journal 49
American Reformation Church has been investing in this advent season. We are honoring the four weeks that lead up to Christmas day. Each Sunday we have been doing a series called “Behold the King.” We have studied the Torah, the Psalms, and this coming week, we will preach on the Prophets to behold the King in the Scriptures. It has been a fascinating journey that prayerfully has honored the Lord and edified the saints.
Last week to prepare for our Wednesday night prayer meeting, we emphasized the intercession of two elderly saints, Anna and Simeon, as the predictions, promises, and preparations for the Lord’s coming was dawning in the earth. This week we will turn our attention towards Mary and her famous Magnificat.
As you may recall, Mary is visiting Elizabeth, her relative to confirm the word the angel Gabriel had heralded to her. She was not the only one that was experiencing a special pregnancy. Zacharias and Elizabeth in the elder years were also going to bring forth a chosen vessel of the Lord to prepare His way in the earth. It is none other than John the Baptist who was the first human being in the world to acknowledge the Christ child in the womb and leap for joy while still in the womb of his mother, Elizabeth. This revelation is critical to the battle to abolish abortion. As a preborn child, John, still had some cognizant awareness of the presence of his Creator.
While Mary and Elizabeth are fellowshipping and comparing notes on the significance of the two boys in their womb, Mary bursts forth in a song, in a prayer, and in a proclamation. She is declaring the significance of the Lord’s dealings with her and the world changing significance of bringing forth a Son who will establish God’s salvation to the ends of the earth (Isaiah 49:6).
Mary exclaims, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.”
Let us like John the Baptist before us continue to pray and prepare the earth to receive her King in Jesus’ name!
