ARC Prayer Meeting
There is a great book called the War Psalms of the Prince of Peace: Lessons from the Imprecatory Psalms by James E. Adams that I highly recommend. At American Reformation Church, prayers and intercession are foundational for all we do and say in service to our King.
There are different types of prayer, but one that is uncomfortable with most Christians is the prayers of imprecation. They struggle whether or not these kinds of prayers comport with what they view as Christ like intercession. However, in the New Testament, it is not a coincidence that the example of a fervent effectual prayer of a righteous man is Elijah pronouncing an imprecatory prayer upon Israel (James 5:16-18).
What is true for individuals is also true for men and nations. The Psalmist declared, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word” (Psalms 119:67). If you are a born-again child of God you know first-hand the veracity of this passage. How many times has the Lord taken you to the woodshed?
The same principle applies to men and nations, “For when Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. Let grace be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD” (Isaiah 26:9b, 10).
There are many tools in the prayer tool box as we seek for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. One of them is imprecatory prayer that the church must exercise with Biblical integrity, especially, in our day as the forces of darkness are establishing all kinds of evil, tyranny, and corruption in our midst.
