Reformation Day Resources

Why should Christians celebrate Reformation Day instead of Halloween? (Read to the bottom for all the links to resources, recipes and crafts to help you celebrate this special day!)

Chiefly, we should love God and hate evil. Our duty is to shine the light of

Christ in dark places. We need to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom

throughout our poor fallen world to liberate those held captive by sin, lies,

and demonic oppression.

The Gospel is the Good News of Christ, which brings the light of salvation in

our midst. Christ’s precious blood sets men and nations free from sin and its

subsequent torments. In Luther’s time, however, the Catholic Church

burdened its members with religious requirements and ceremonies that were

powerless to save.

God in his mercy, revealed to Martin Luther, “The just shall live by faith.”

The Apostle Paul declared, “For by grace you have been saved through faith,

and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone

should boast” (Ephesians 2:8, 9). Luther finally came to believe in this soul-

liberating truth and the rest they say is history.

Once Luther was delivered from his torment and resentment over trying to

live perfect enough to be saved from God’s wrath, he was then burdened

with the condition of the church. His initial desire was not to turn people

away from the church’s doors, but rather REFORM the church.

He nailed his 95 concerns to reveal what was happening on the other side of

the Wittenberg church door. He wanted all to see how the church’s traditions

had violated God’s Word. From there, he relentlessly pursued to drive home

the 5 Solas, which is considered the primary message coming out of the

Reformation.

. Salvation by Grace alone!

. Through Faith alone!

. In Christ alone!

. According to Scripture alone!

. For the glory of God alone!

These truths should be spoken of and passed down to our children. The

Apostle Peter stated, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a

holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of

Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9)

The Reformation brought mankind from the darkness of dead religion back

to the saving grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, our Lord. This is why

October 31 st , when Martin Luther banged his 95 thesis to the door of the

Wittenberg Church centuries ago, should be memorialized today. Our

families should not only be filled with thankfulness for what Jesus did for us,

but also for the courage of Martin Luther. He bravely opposed the religious

Goliath of his day to bring the revelation of God’s Word back to the common

people so they might be saved.

Below are resources and ideas for families who are wanting to start new

traditions for this day. My lovely bride, Kendra Thomas, did this every year

for our children growing up and they all have very fond memories of this. I

pray it bless your home as well!
