Law Breaker/Law Keeper
Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent (Mark 3:4).
Should mankind do good or evil? Should we seek to save innocent lives or murder them?
If our conscience is still functional, if we still have a smidgeon of common sense, and our moral compass is still operational, we know the self-evident answers.
Man is to eschew evil and do good.
We are to follow the example of our Master (Acts 10:38).
John Wesley stated, "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
Civil government's duty is to punish the evildoer and protect those who are good in God's sight.
Due to the sinful nature of man, good can become evil, evil can be codified into law, and tyranny can come as a result.
William Blackstone stated, "The doctrines thus delivered we call the revealed or divine law, and they are to be found in the Holy Scriptures ... {and} are found upon comparison to be really part of the original law of nature. Upon these two foundations, the law of nature and the law of revelation (Thomas Jefferson penned of nature's God as a substitute for the law of revelation) depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these."
According to God’s Word, the state is the lawbreaker by breaking the 6th commandment, “Thou shall not murder” and the gentle Christian rescuers are the law keepers, “Rescue those unjustly sentenced to death” and “speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
Eventually, God will reverse the fortunes of His people (Luke 6:20-23).
