Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding

The Lord used wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to create the heavens and the earth. Proverbs 3:19, 20 states, “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; By His knowledge the depths were broken up, and clouds drop down the dew.”

He has made these creative abilities available to men. Exodus 31:2-5 declares, “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,  in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.”

Knowledge is merely the obtaining of data, information, and statistics.

Some say knowledge is power. There are those who always learn, however, but never come to the knowledge of truth.

The Bible warns of those who peddle secret or hidden knowledge. Typically that promotes occultism, witchcraft, and Gnosticism.

“To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20).

Understanding serves as an umpire that discerns the essence of knowledge. It separates fact from fiction. It differentiates between truth and falsehood. It puts difference between the holy and profane.

Wisdom is applying knowledge and understanding in your life. It is the principle virtue to pursue according to the book of Proverbs, whereas, love is the chief virtue to obtain in the New Testament.

It is not enough to obtain wisdom. One must retain it. This is the hard lesson in life as it pertains to King Solomon, who started off very well as the wisest man who ever lived, but ended badly.

There are distinct fruits that are produced by the wisdom of this world and the wisdom that comes from God above.
