ARC Prayer Meeting: 10/9/24
This Wednesday night prayer meeting has been cancelled. Hurricane Milton is coming on the heels of Hurricane Helene. This will be our first official Florida baptism threatening to hit tomorrow evening or early Thursday morning. Milton is supposed to pack a wallop, especially, on the west coast around the Tampa Bay Area, who was recently devastated by Helene.
Most of my family has evacuated to Georgia, while some of us are going to hunker down and ride it out. Since some of our family and church family remain, my duty as patriarch and pastor is clear. We have made preparations and taken precautions trusting the Lord is in the eye of this storm.
I opened our church service this past Sunday with this passage of Scripture, “For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea. They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths; their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still” (Psalms 107:25:29).
God creates storms and calms storms to bring men and nations to their wit’s end. The redemptive purpose is to inspire a repenting cry. As our prayerful cries reach heaven, God brings us out of trouble, quiets our distress, and calms the storm that rages from within and without us.
Hosea 6:1 declares, “Come, and let us return to the LORD; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.” Helene, for sure, tore up a few states. Milton stands ready to strike Florida. What is the message coming from the rubble, “Come, let us return to the Lord.”
Not sure, what awaits us on the other side of this hurricane, but pray the Lord uses it to fulfill His purpose. As for me and my house, we will be hunkering down, drawing near to God, singing His praises, seeking His face, and pray that Florida as well as our nation will humble ourselves, pray, and turn from our wicked ways that God might hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and bring healing to our perverted and bloodstained land in Jesus’ name!
