The Truman Show Syndrome
America is suffering from “The Truman Show” dome syndrome. If you recall, Jim Carrey, played Truman Burbank, who was selected at birth and legally adopted by a television studio following an unwanted pregnancy. He became the unsuspecting star of The Truman Show, a reality television program filmed and broadcast worldwide, 24/7, through approximately five thousand hidden cameras. Surveillance State anyone?
He lived under a dome that was controlled by a Hollywood producer called Christof (A possible reference to Jesus as Creator). Chrsitof controls the weather and has employed many actors to convince Truman to stay safe under this artificial dome and not venture beyond it. Though the setting is a paradise, it is nothing less than a prison.
Americans stand appalled by the censorship of a nation like North Korea. We are troubled that the government controls the media and brainwashes its citizens. We condemn their Truman Show, but somehow think we do not have one of our own that we are laboring under. Think again my friend. The plot, narrative, and worldview are all scripted and most are dancing to its tune.
This is spiritual warfare at its core. Godless ideas, thoughts, and ideologies have produced fire in the minds of men that are delusional. Most have lost the capacity of critical thought to see through the facades. Not all that glitters is gold my friends.
The Apostle Paul recorded for us the nature of this battle and how Christians should live amongst this massive deception. He stated, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled” (2 Corinthians 10:3-6).
God has not given to us a spirit of fear, but love, power, and a sound mind. We have access to the mind of Christ, the wisdom of God, and the discernment of the Holy Spirit. Our duty is clear in the midst of the world’s brainwashing. We are not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Read, study, and mediate on the Scriptures. They are the antidote to the poisonous agenda perpetrated by the spirit of the age. For those who are still under the Truman Show Dome, you can escape that delusional prison and be set free by the truth and love of Christ. Christof is an artificial imposter.
Repent and believe the Gospel! The Kingdom of God is at hand!
