Conspiracy vs. Conspiracy Mindedness

As one raised up in Dispensational theology, it was easy to become interested in the notion of conspiracy. This interpretation of Scripture lent itself suitable to fit nicely into a conspiratorial view of life. The Illuminati, Skull and Bones, Masonic agenda, and of course, the greatest conspiracy of all, the rise of the Anti-Christ in the “end times” filled my young soul. I would dare say, it became an all-consuming mindset. Here a conspiracy, there a conspiracy, and everywhere a conspiracy took a lion share of my fleeting time.

No doubt, the Bible records a conspiracy. It started in the garden when our first parents, Adam and Eve, came up against a subtle, crafty creature, Satan, which convinced them to commit high treason against their Creator. The whisper of “Hath God said” started the ball rolling and became a full blown conspiracy that led to the Fall.

As time progressed, it grew to the Tower of Babel conspiracy. Deceived men desired to reach to the heavens, pull God down from His throne, and replace Him on earth (Genesis 11:1-9). Throughout redemptive history many Anti-Christs have arisen (1 John 2:18). They have attempted to revive the Babel conspiracy with dreams of grandeur to conquer the world. They are dust. Meanwhile, Christ remains at the right hand of the Father till all His enemies are made His footstool (Psalms 110:1)

In my case, however, it went from being interested in the Biblical account of conspiracy to becoming full-blown conspiracy minded. It has been my experience through the years of serving the Lord that many in the Body of Christ have followed this same line of thinking. However, there is a huge difference between the two. One has its reality in Scripture; the other replaces the mind of Christ in the believer with being conspiracy minded. It’s a black hole with no chance of discovering reality in the earth.

Headline after headline, news cast after news cast, and magazine article after magazine article fed the beast. Even if something “good” happened, I could not recognize it and see it as an actual good. Jeremiah warned of this mentality in the Scriptures. If we, even as believers, become man centered in our thinking, instead of God centered, we cannot see when good comes. He stated:

Thus says the Lord:

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:5-8)

Due to the fact that man inspired by the Devil was in charge of this world by conspiratorial efforts, in a sense, my trust was man controlled the world. Therefore, if something beneficial took place in the world, it was just a ploy to further the conspiracy. My mind was convinced that sin, the Devil, and the fallen world system were twirling one hand to keep us mesmerized and with the sleight of the other hand was furthering the conspiracy. On and on it went, until one day, I mercifully came across this passage of Scripture. It helped to snap me out of being conspiracy minded.

Isaiah 8:12-14a states, “Do not say, a conspiracy, concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. He will be as a sanctuary.”

Here the prophet of God is being challenged by the Lord to change his mindset. Whatever the popular view of conspiracy that was being floated by the masses, Isaiah was not to come into agreement with nor enable. All the conspiracies obviously led to a dreadful fear amongst the people, even as we see in our day. How can one escape this stupor? How can we overcome the fear, doubt, and worry fueled by the speculations of conspiracy that grips the masses today?

The Lord of Hosts, He shall be our fear. He shall be our dread. What is the blessed hope in becoming a God-fearing Christian that exercises the mind of Christ in these dark, tumultuous days? The Lord will be a sanctuary and refuge for His people (Psalms 46:1).

Our Lord reiterated this admonishment in the New Testament. He stated, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell…Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:28, 31).

Today, we have many wealthy elites that have a messianic impulse to reimagine the world in their perverted image. There are smoke filled back rooms where deals are being made by men and women, such as Bill Gates, George Soros and their ilk who are drunk with power to “reset” the world.

Will they succeed in time and history or will they go the way of those who rebelled against the King who rules the nations with a rod of iron (Revelation 12:5)? Who is the ultimately sovereign? Is it fallen, sinful men, the Devil, or the Lord, God Almighty? Whose will and counsel shall stand the test of time, God or man? The Bible is clear on this topic.

In the Old Testament and keep in mind this is after the Fall, God’s Word testifies, “This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, In order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, Gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.” This truth is replete throughout the Old Testament canon and recorded several times in the book of Daniel.

In the New Testament, the King of kings and the Lord of lords declares, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen (Matthew 28:18-20).

Whose report shall the church believe? Does the world belong to the Devil and the Anti-Christ or does it belong to Christ and His Kingdom? Will the conspiracies of men inspired by the Devil thwart God’s purposes and plans in the earth? Psalms 33:10, 11 reveals, “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.”

What we believe about the future does have an impact on the quality of our faith, mindsets, and outlooks in life. This article was written to differentiate between the conspiracy that is recorded in Scripture that began in the Garden and the temptation to become conspiracy minded. I pray this short teaching was helpful in that regard. Keep pressing on saints to the high call and prize.
